Some of the tips are simple to do. Others require more effort and investment, but promise big savings over the years for the building and our Planet.
If we each just implement one or two of these tips we can make a difference in our energy footprint.

SAVING WATER
Breakdown of Indoor Water Use
Did you know that 95 per cent of the water you use in your home is consumed in the bathroom and laundry? On average, of all indoor water use, toilets account for 35 per cent and showers 30 per cent. Laundry accounts for 30 per cent, and drinking and cooking only accounts for five per cent. Therefore, replacing your existing toilet(s) with a high efficiency (4.8L or less) model can provide you with substantial savings on your water and sewer bill. Your current fixtures could use anywhere from six litres to 20 litres, depending on their age. The amount of water and money that you’ll save depends on your lifestyle and the number of people in your home.
RECYCLING
Our condo is one in the Durham Region that participates in the Recycling Program. Each year we recycle Tons of recyclable material. We should be proud of our contribution to a healthier planet. Let’s keep up that momentum and see if we can do better.
TIPS TO SAVE ENERGY TODAY- Easy low-cost and no-cost ways to save energy:
1)Install a programmable thermostat to lower utility bills and manage your heating and cooling systems efficiently
2)Air dry dishes instead of using your dishwasher’s drying cycle
3)Turn things off when you are not in the room such as lights, TVs, entertainment systems, and your computer and monitor
4)Plug home electronics, such as TVs and DVD players, into power strips; turn the power strips off when the equipment is not in use — TVs and DVDs in standby mode still use several watts of power
5)Take short showers instead of baths and use low-flow shower heads for additional energy savings
6)Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes
7)Check to see that windows and doors are closed when heating or cooling your unit
8)Look for the ENERGY STARĀ® label on light bulbs, home appliances, electronics, and other products
8)Be aware of Ontario’s Time of Use Program
